Hyundai Verna Facelift Spied In China Could Launch Here In 2020
- It will be the first update to the current gen sedan since its launch in 2017.
- Features various cosmetic changes like revised front and rear bumpers, new headlamps, alloy wheels and more.
- It could get interior updates like an updated infotainment system and Hyundai's BlueLink feature among others.
- Apart from the 1.5-litre duo like the Kia Seltos, a turbo-hybrid petrol variant is also in the works.
- Likely to launch around mid-2020.
The current-gen Hyundai Verna will soon be due for a mid-life update as it was launched in India in 2017. While it doesn't look particularly outdated and still comes with a ton of features, the competition is slowly but surely catching up. However,.
The updates include a trapezoidal grille, larger sweptback triple-pod headlamps that merge with the grille, revised front bumper and silver inserts. At the rear, the Verna gets new tail light cluster connected via a thin LED strip that runs across the car's width. Other cosmetic highlights include a sunroof , shark fin antenna, monotone alloy wheels presumably for the lower variant of the sedan and dual-tone alloy wheels for a higher variant of the car.
While interior details of the Verna facelift have not been revealed yet, we expect Hyundai to give updates to the interiors and we could expect an improved version of the touchscreen infotainment system similar to that which will come on the Elantra facelift in India. Aside from that, the new Verna is also expected to get the Blue Link connected-car tech that made its debut on the SUV. Other expected features could include ABS with EBD, six airbags, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, electric sunroof, smart trunk, cruise control and more.
Under the hood, the China-spec Verna could be offered with a 1.4-litre motor delivering 100PS of power. However, the India spec Verna is expected to get a new set of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines from the Kia Seltos which are expected to be BS6 compliant. In addition to this, Hyundai could also bring in a turbo-hybrid petrol engine in the pipeline. Unfortunately, Hyundai has yet to reveal the real technical specifications of the Verna. The facelift is also expected to be mated to a 6-speed manual with a CVT and a 6-speed torque converter option like the Seltos.
The current Verna is sold in the price range between Rs 8.09 lakh - 14.05 lakh (ex-showroom India) in the Indian market. We could expect the Verna facelift to be priced at a premium over its predecessor due to its cosmetic and mechanical upgrades. It is unclear if the Indian version will get the same styling updates, but it is less likely to differ much from the Chinese spec Verna. The Verna facelift is expected to either be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 or before April 2020 when the BS6 norms kick off in India. Once launched, it is expected to take on rivals like and the Volkswagen Vento
