Volkswagen Group To Launch 6 New Models For 2019

  • VW Group has confirmed 6 new models for 2019.
  • New models include Cayenne Coupe, Q3 Sportback and a replacement for Bentley Flying Spur.
  • No budget-spec VWs for India until 2020.

Group will be launching six new models in 2019, the carmaker has officially confirmed at its annual conference in Wolfsburg, Germany. The six new models include the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, Audi Q3 Sportback, an unnamed B segment SUV from VW and a replacement for the Bentley Flying Spur. The new range of models also include VW Bora and Lavidan - two electric vehicles that will be made specifically for the Chinese market.

The Group also revealed that there will be 15 new EV launches using the brand's MEB (Modular Electrification Toolkit) platform. This move is line with VW's aim to achieve sales of 22 million battery electric vehicles by 2025. These models include the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, the e-tron Sportback, the Volkswagen Buzz, Vizzion, Crozz and the Vision E.

At the ongoing Geneva Motor show, also unveiled the new Q4 e-tron. It will be followed by the new Q2 e-tron set to debut at the Shanghai Motor Show. The all electric concepts are slated to get production models by the end of 2020. The luxury carmaker also unveiled an entire range of PHEVs which will be available in 2019 itself. Skoda too unveiled its new Vision iV crossover concept that is set to join the huge range of upcoming EVs from the VW Group.

The company aims that by 2040, 70 per cent of the new European market will be made of BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and about 20 percent as plug-in EVs. Though VW has many exciting launches down the pipeline, there are no budget launches planned for the Indian market anytime soon. As we know, Skoda is leading the charge for VW Group in India under its "India 2020" initiative.
