All-New Mercedes-Benz CLS Launched Trades Curves For Creases

2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS Lauched
  • Third-gen CLS Launched in India.
  • Carries forward the luxurious 4-door coupe package, gets a sharper exterior and striking interior.
  • The Mercedes-Benz CLS 300 d is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder 245PS/500Nm turbo-diesel.

The sharper-looking, all-new (Rs 55.4 lakh, ex-Delhi) in the 4-door coupe luxury car segment but not directly competing against them.

The CLS is all about design, including the angular LED headlamps and taillamps, the classic aggressively coupe-ish design, slanting nose and high waistline. Unlike the model it replaces, the body surfaces are not as deep and there are less conflicting lines on the car -- making the design simpler and maybe more appealing to more people.

The interior will feel familiar to those who have seen the new if you haven't. It's smaller than the E-Class LWB sold in India in terms of overall dimensions, so expect it to be less spacious inside. But the CLS was never about space, it was all about offering a high level of luxury in a stylish package.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS 300 d shares its engine with the new, a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel developing 245PS of maximum power and 500Nm of peak torque. This is enough to propel the 4-door coupe from 0-100kkmph in a respectable 6.4-seconds and on to a top speed of 250kmph. It may not break performance records but the CLS is all about looking good than being a performance machine.
