Skoda Octavia gets Virtual Cockpit Coming Soon on Superb and Kodiaq
The executive sedan segment has always been a key one for the aspirational Indian carbuyer. Essentially, the segment boasts of luxury class features in a more affordable and smarter packaging. Cars in this segment have always been known to punch well above their weight, and doing just that is the Skoda Octavia.
A fan favourite with a cult following to rival some of the oldest rock bands in the country, the has always had the character for it as well. Not only does it do all the basics right, it has plenty inside to keep up with the expectations of the most aspirational of customers.
Keeping in line with its tradition of offering the most bang for buck, the Octavia has now been jazzed up with an all-new virtual cockpit system. Seen on much more expensive Audi and VW Group cars in the past, the Octavia is the first Skoda car to get the virtual cockpit system in India.
Offered only on the top-of-the-trim Landamp;K variant, the 12.3-inch high definition TFT display system replaces the conventional gauges on the Octavia. The new system comes equipped with 5 display modes: Classic, Extended, Modern, Sports and Basic.
Classic mode mimics the conventional display with two large round dials displaying speedometer and tachometer information, along with a configurable area in between for navigation and maps.
In Extended mode, the dials lose prominence while the central display gets more screen real estate. Modern mode is dedicated to a completely digital experience, with the entire screen being used for navigation or multimedia display. Meanwhile, Sport mode converts the screen into a single large dial with info on speed and engine revs.
Under the hood, the Octavia is still powered by the 1.8-litre TSI motor on the petrol variant which makes a hefty 178PS of power and 250Nm of torque. Whereas, the diesel is powered by the 2.0-litre TDI which makes 141PS of power and a thumping 320Nm of torque.
With revamped interiors on the Octavia without an increase in pricing, Skoda has certainly sweetened the deal and made the Octavia an even better value proposition than before.
