Earlier, that's based on the swanky Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV. We also got an idea about the design of the SUV thanks to a rendered image. Flash to the present and an undisguised Mercedes-Maybach GLS has been spied testing overseas. Could the anticipated launch be sooner than we expected?

Before we answer that, let's talk about the design. While there's no doubt that the silhouette is identical to the standard, it borrows plenty of design elements from the Maybach 6 Coupe Concept. Like the vertical slat grille that replaces the standard model's twin-slat grille. This could also get a coat of chrome, in sync with its sedan counterparts. Other design updates include a restyled front bumper and new alloy wheels that could also get a tinge of the shiny stuff. Moving to the rear, the Maybach version looks eerily familiar to the standard GLS.

While the interiors of the upcoming model are yet to be revealed, we expect it to receive an opulent luxury overhaul. A touch of exclusivity like the Maybach-themed instrument cluster and infotainment UI is expected as well. Apart from that, the middle row bench is expected to make way for a lounge-like seating position with all manner of creature comforts. These include individual climate control, massaging seats, rear seat entertainment, panoramic sunroof, a refrigerator as well as glasses for sipping that glass of champagne.
Powering the Maybach GLS could be the standard model's 4.0-litre V8 petrol unit that's good for 483PS and 700Nm. A 48V mild-hybrid system ensures additional torque boost under hard acceleration. Apart from that, the mighty 6.0-litre V12 from the Maybach S-Class is also expected to mark its presence here. It develops a mind boggling 630PS of power and a locomotive-like 1000Nm of torque. Being an SUV, we expect all-wheel drive to be present on both variants, though we don't really see anyone in their right senses ever taking it off the smoothly paved stuff.

According to reports, is expected to showcase the Maybach GLS at the 2019 Los Angeles Motor Show in November. We also expect it to be present in India like its sedan sibling, the Maybach S-Class, which retails here for Rs 1.90 crore (ex-showroom). When launched, the Maybach GLS will rival the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls Royce Cullinan, and the Range Rover Autobiography.
