Volkswagen has showcased a new pick-up truck concept at the ongoing 2018, which it touts as being the most advanced of its kind in the 5-metre long pick-up truck segment. Primarily designed for the Brazilian market, where pick-up trucks are quite popular, the Tarok Concept pick-up previews innovations which could make double cab pick-ups more versatile than ever - the highlight of which is 'variable loading area'.

While tradition pick-ups have limited space behind the dual-cab, the Volkswagen Tarok concept utilises an innovative folding panel below the rear windshield combined with flat folding rear seats for an extended loading area for long-and-low items of luggage without resorting to opening the tailgate.

The Tarok Concept also previewed a new petrol/ethanol engine which can run on 100 per cent ethanol, in accordance to Brazilian TotalFlex Fuel norms. The 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder, TSI motor develops 150PS of maximum power and is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a permanent '4Motion' AWD system.

When launched, the Volkswagen Taroq will also be offered with 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel motor also developing 150PS of maximum power.
